| Kanyana Wildlife
Rehabilitation Centre Incorporated started in a small way over thirty years ago in
June and Lloyd Butcher's home to give the local community access to a facility to care for
sick, injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife as an aid to their ultimate release back
into their natural habitat. Residential, industrial and tourist development
increased this need, and by 1986 flight release aviaries and facilities were provided
separate from our home. Admissions of animals, birds, and reptiles increased from 70
in 1986 to more than 700 in 1995, to nearly 1000 in 1997/98. Kanyana is a non-profit organisation
dependent upon donations, an annual street appeal and sponsorships. A veterinary
surgeon provides his professional advice, assistance and service to ensure wildlife
receives the most appropriate treatment for survival and ultimate release.
