Easton College, with its 250-hectare farming estate,
is unique among colleges in the eastern region in that it has direct involvement with most
of the commonly practiced farming enterprises, including dairy cattle, pigs, poultry,
sheep, root crops and cereals.
Current commercial practices are adopted on the College farm so
students experience realistic farming methods, mainly achieved by establishing alliances
with commercial partners. Its arable unit, for example, is managed in association with
Morley Research Centre and similar partnerships are being developed in other agricultural
areas so Easton can demonstrate commercial-scale dairy and pig production.
Where strategic partnerships are not possible, the College works closely with the farming
industry to develop smaller demonstration-scale units offering high levels of technical
expertise. For example, our poultry demonstration unit enables students to work with a
wide range of equipment and systems, as well as gaining hands-on experience of a variety
of poultry methods, including broiler production and free range turkey breeding. In
addition, the College also boasts a small flock of sheep.
In addition to traditional farm-craft occupations, agriculture offers some excellent
career opportunities, including research, financial services and marketing for
agri-business.
It offers courses in the following areas:
Agriculture
Animal Care
Business and IT
Countryside
Equestrian
Floristry
Food Manufacture
Horticulture
Interior Design
Machinery and Workshop
Pre Uniformed Services
Sports and Recreation
Easton College is small enough to be friendly but large enough to have some excellent
facilities. Many students decided to 'live-in' during their time at Easton. We currently
have 100 single study bedrooms, located in three blocks around the college. Grants are
available to help many residential students. |
