| These flowcharts are the means of navigating to pages containing detailed
information on husbandry, veterinary and habitat management techniques. They have been
formulated by "starting with the first "question" - that is - what is the
animal? is it in need of veterinary attention (investigation, medical or surgical) or
husbandry care? is it alive or dead? What is the objective in managing a certain habitat? To use the flowcharts - consider what you are trying to do, and click the button title that seem most closely aligned to your needs. Sections are hyperlinked and you can flick from one section to another by using "arrows" that will appear to the top left hand corner of your screen. The "How to..." section contains information on husbandry, veterinary techniques, and techniques used for the management of species, diseases and habitats. The main flowcharts such as "Bird Husbandry & Management", "Disease Investigation & Management" and "UK Wildlife Casualty Management; are designed to assist the user in deciding what to do next. From the flowcharts the user is directed to extensive "Overview" pages in which information is provided first on a general level then with more detail for different taxonomic groups as appropriate for the different modules (e.g. within UK Wildlife Casualty Management, the page on Accommodation discusses general principles before providing information appropriate to mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians). Pages on Individual Techniques, which include such diverse topics as construction of a perimeter fence for an enclosure, giving an intravenous injection in a bird and hand-rearing small passerine birds, may be reached from the flowchart pages, the long "Overview" pages and, as appropriate, individual disease and species pages. Each individual technique page, in addition to describing the technique, provides information on the appropriate uses of the technique, its limitations, equipment and expertise required and legal and ethical considerations. All "How to..." pages are colour coded purple to assist with navigation. To find a page on a given technique, the user can follow a logical path from the purple "How to..." button which is visible at the top of the screen at all times (except when viewing an image). Links are also available from within each module (e.g. from the page on a disease to a technique associated with treatment for that disease). A third method is by using the on-line search mechanism (see "How to search" for further details). |
