The taxonomic structure for the SPECIES section has been completed for all mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibia to genus level. Information on particular species is added as required when it is mentioned in a WILDPro module. This section is designed to contain information about species, including vertebrates, invertebrates and micro-organisms down to virus level. All pages within this section are colour coded blue for ease of navigation. This section currently contains natural history information on:
Species are strictly maintained in their taxonomic relationships and may all be found by following the taxonomic tree (Phylum / Class / Order / Family / Genus / Species). IN ADDITION the following mechanisms may be used to find a species:
As taxonomy is always changing, for the purposes of WildPro a single reference has been identified for each taxonomic level. The main references used at that level are indicated on the pages. For example mammals are classified following "Mammal Species of the World" by Wilson & Reeder. Alternative names (scientific and common) are provided on all species pages to minimise confusion and make it easier for the user to find a species under the name they are most familiar with. Information on species is entered in varying degrees of detail with full species pages . Link pages may contain only names and geographic ranges. Link pages will eventually be replaced by full species pages when further information is required within modules. Information on different species is provided at different depths:
("Link pages" and "summary pages" are expanded as appropriate for the different WildPro modules.) |
