This volume provides general support on the principles of wildlife disease investigation and management, and consists of two integrated publications:

The Disease Investigation and Management section of Wildpro's Waterfowl: Health and Management volume guides anyone investigating a disease situation through all the steps from history and documentation through physical examination to necropsy and environmental assessment.

Environmental and population management are described, as well as the treatment and care of individual animal patients. Principles are covered for all species, but with a focus on birds and particularly waterfowl.

Individual procedures described include various drug administration and surgical techniques, anaesthesia and methods for dispersing animals to control disease.Video clips demonstrate bird and mammal necropsy and blood collection from birds.

The Field Manual of Wildlife Diseases (General Field Procedure and Diseases of Birds) is a practically focused compendium of information about avian diseases in the wild and the variety of agents responsible for them.

It is an invaluable aid in identifying diseases and in giving guidance on the gathering and analysis of specimens needed to establish diagnoses in the laboratory.

There are practical overviews of types of disease of bacterial, fungal, viral, parasitic, biotoxin and chemical toxin origin. Important diseases are described with their cause, species affected, distribution, seasonality, field signs, gross lesions, diagnosis, control and human health considerations.

The Field Manual includes many useful appendices and a glossary of technical terms and the entire module is supported by an extensive electronic library of full-text documents.
